Sumas Mountain Hike, Fraser Valley BC

Many people emailed the hiking club during the week about whether there would be a hike today at all (given the weather forecasts for cold temperatures and snow) wondering if the weather would have us cancel our plans. Of course not. There's always a doable plan B when it comes to hiking.
It turned out to be a perfect hiking day. Blue sky. Sun. Perfect temperature.
We encountered a skiff of snow, but not enough to even require gaiters. Lots of windfalls made for a handful of buswacks to get around trees across the trail. Check out photos in the BC hiking trails photo gallery section of this site for a slideshow of some of what we saw.
This hike is remarkably close and appears to hardly be known or used at all. I'd highely recommend it to anyone in Abbotsford or Chilliwack (as it's accessed from #3 road, which is between both cities, just 2 minutes off the freeway) who's looking for a good couple-hour's jaunt.
