Hiking Schedule

Calendar of upcoming hikes & events for the Chilliwack Hiking Club.

Please Note:

1. 1. Preregistration: some hikes this fall will have a maximum number of participants. These hikes will require pre-registration online by hiking club members.
2. 2. Membership Fees: a small annual membership fee will soon take effect for everyone participating in all upcoming club events
3. 3. Carpool Fees: All passengers of carpools (ie if you're getting a ride to a hike from someone) are required to pay their driver for gas. If the total driving time from the meeting place to the trailhead is under 30 minutes we request you pay your driver $5. If the drive is over 30 minutes we request you pay your driver $10.
   
   

 

March 2008

• March 30 (Sunday) Mt Thacker, Hope BC (PLEASE NOTE TIME CHANGES BELOW)
  • Pre-Hike Meeting Place: We will be meeting at 1:30pm in the Sardis Starbucks parking lot. Once there we will arrange carpooling then head out to the trail in as few vehicles as possible. If you're coming from Hope, we're meeting at the trailhead at 2:15pm.
    If you're new, make sure you've completed the membership paperwork before arriving. Carpool fee: $10.

April 2008

• April 5 (Saturday) Coquihalla Lakes (Snowshoeing)
  • Pre-Trip Meeting Place: We will be meeting at 8am in the Sardis Starbucks parking lot. Once there we will arrange carpooling then head out to the trail in as few vehicles as possible. If you're new, make sure you've completed the membership paperwork before arriving.
  • Carpool fee: $10
  • Snowshoes: bring your own or rent locally on the day before the event. There's nowhere to rent snowshoes en route to this event or at this event.

• April 19 (Saturday) Campbell Lake
  • Pre-Hike Meeting Place: We will be meeting at 8am in the Sardis Starbucks parking lot. Once there we will arrange carpooling then head out to the trail in as few vehicles as possible. If you're coming from Hope, we're meeting at the trailhead at around 8:45am.
    If you're new, make sure you've completed the membership paperwork before arriving.
  • Carpool fee: $10

• April 27 (Sunday) Vedder Mountain Trail Cleanup Day - not an official Hike Chilliwack event, but please take part if you can. Follow the meeting instructions given by the organizers of this event.

May 2008

• May 3 (Saturday) Sumas Mountain North to Chadsey Lake (Two Groups, One Event: Photographers Outing and a Regular Hike)
  • Chilliwack Meeting Place: We will be meeting at 8am in the Sardis Starbucks parking lot. Once there we will arrange carpooling then head out to the trail in as few vehicles as possible.
  • Abbotsford Meeting Place: If you're coming from Vancouver or Abbotsford, meet the Chilliwack group at the Watcom Road Tim Hortons at around 8:30am and drive to the trailhead together. Park in the gravel parking lot between Tim Hortons and the Freeway.
  • Hikers: this is a regular hiking club event so bring all your hiking gear. There will be another group meeting us at the start of the hike (the photographers) and they'll likely go very slow and get left behind in the first 10 minutes as they stop to setup tripods and take pics along the way.
  • Photographers: Weather permitting, bring all your camera gear and head into the Sumas Mountain forest with other photographers. The other group will hike to the lake, our group will very likely not make it all the way to the lake and back as we'll be going very slow, stopping frequently to take pictures.

• May 17 (Saturday) Elk Mountain Hike
  • Pre-Hike Meeting Place: We will be meeting at 8:00am in the Sardis Starbucks parking lot. Once there we will arrange carpooling then head out to the trail in as few vehicles as possible.
  • Carpool fee: $5
  • Event details: Elk Mountain hike and driving directions
