Gibson's Grind: Chilliwack Hikes and Trails
Time: Approximately 60 minutes round trip
Elevation gain: 120
Basic description: A great way to wake up your lungs and legs without a long drive to the trailhead. This hike is a repurposing and rejuvination of multiple mountain biking trails (both active and defunct) starting at Cultus Lake's Main Beach and climbing a ways up Vedder Mountain and back.
Photos (coming soon)
How to get there:
Drive to Cultus Lake. Trailhead is near Main Beach. See event description on calendar page for meeting place.
Special Notes:
This hike is shorter and easier than the "Grouse Grind". It's a loop hike - ie no gondola to take you down when you get to the top. Some short sections are steep and rocky and wet so come prepared to get a little muddy if it's wet, and be sure you've got good shoes/boots and that you are able to navigate both up and down sometimes steep rocky slopes. Don't expect a nicely groomed trail. Watch for mountain bikers during the weekends! Hiking poles are a handy tool on the steep parts but not essential.
