Joffre Lakes Hiking and Backpacking, BC
Distance: 11km round trip
Time: 8 hours round trip.
Elevation Gain: 365 m approx. 1200 feet
Difficulty: Moderate but Strenuous with a full backpack
Best time to go: coming soon
Description: This is a beautiful wide trail that starts very easy by
the first lake. As we leave the lake and cross over the Joffre creek
the trail begins to climb and follows the creek regularly. After a
short rockslide scramble the climb steepens until we reach the second
lake, as beautiful as the first and more so. This also gives you a
first good glimpse at what awaits at the top, sparkling glaciers and
lunging mountain peaks. The trail takes the east side of the lake then
leaves it for the final 50 metre of elevation gain leading to the
largest green blue lake. We arrive at the North end of the lake and
follow the West side down to the Southside where we set up camp, store
our food and get comfortable, yes there is an outhouse here. There are
several good trails to explore such as Mount Taylor and Tszil Mountain
as well as a slightly technical climb toward Joffre Peak.
If you enjoy back country camping you will love this trip!
