Description
The Elk Mountain trail is a short 4km hike through forest to Elk Mountain. Views are scarce until you near the top. If you hike fast you can make it to the first "peak" or "viewpoint" in about an hour and 15 minutes. Most people take about 90-100 minute to get to the first peak hiking at a slower pace. A view over the Fraser Valley to the west is reached first. About 10 minutes after the first peak the ridge between Elk Mountain and Mt. Thurston is reached. The distance listed is only to the summit of Elk Mountain. To reach the summit of Mt. Thurston extends the hike to 14.6 km return. The best views are found near a cairn on a false summit of Mt. Thurston.
