Calendar of upcoming hikes & events for the Chilliwack Hiking Club.

Please Note:

1. Preregistration: some hikes this summer will have a maximum number of participants. These hikes will require pre-registration online by hiking club members.
2. Membership Fees: a small annual membership fee will soon take effect for everyone participating in all upcoming club events
3. Carpool Fees: All passengers of carpools (ie if you're getting a ride to a hike from someone) are required to pay their driver for gas. If the total driving time from the meeting place to the trailhead is under 30 minutes we request you pay your driver $5. If the drive is over 30 minutes we request you pay your driver $10.

August 2007

August 4-6 (Saturday, Sunday, Monday): Joffre Lakes Backpacking Trip

Location: Joffre Lakes, Pemberton BC
Joffre Lakes Hike details and directions
Maximum # of Participants: 10
Prerequisite: Previous backpacking experience and your own food & gear. Trip is on rain or shine and is only for those with previous backcountry multi-day trip experience.
Preregistration: Preregister starting on July 18th by emailing Steve ( fourdoves@shaw.ca ). Only the first 8 qualified registrants will be able to go - it's first come first serve. You must pre-register via email. Include the following information in your email:

Email subject: "Joffre Lakes Registration Application"
Name, address, phone number
Information about your hiking experience and hiking/camping gear to ensure you meet the requirements for participating in this hike.
let us know if you plan on driving and how many you have room to take with you

Special Notes: Group size limit of 10, consisting of 2 leaders and 8 qualified hikers selected at the hiking club leader's discretion. When we have our first eight names we will keep a two-person wait list in case of unforeseen reasons one or two of the initial group can't make it.
Transportation: We will meet at Sardis Starbucks at 6:00 a.m. Give your driver $15.00 for gas for this trip. We highly recommend you arrange a way to get picked up by a driver before you get to Starbucks so that you do not leave your vehicle parked for three days and two nights in a mall parking lot. Contact Steve via email at fourdoves(at)shaw.ca if you need help connecting with a driver a head of time. We will return to Starbucks by 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
Trip Planning:
- Meals (provide your own)
  - Saturday: Lunch on the trail and Supper at camp
  - Sunday: Breakfast, Lunch (likely on the trail) and Supper
  - Monday: Breakfast at camp and lunch on the trail or in the car
- Gear (provide your own)
  - This is a basic and incomplete list: hiking boots and socks, nylon pants and shirt, wick away undershirt, hat, waterproof-breathable jacket and pants. Also a good warm sleeping bag and mattress pad, a solid and light tent with a ground sheet that won't blow away or let rain in. A headlamp with spare batteries & bulb, matches, cup, bowl and plate, cutlery, pocket knife, water purification system (can be shared) two pots, scouring pad, tea towel, stove and fuel (can be shared) food, toiletries, good well cushioned backpack. Remember, we pack out everything we pack in.

August 18 (Saturday): Williams Ridge / Williams Peak

Location: Chilliwack, BC
Maximum # of Participants: unlimited
Pre-Hike Meeting Place: We will be meeting at 8:00AM in the Sardis Starbucks parking lot. Once there we will arrange carpooling then head out to the trail in as few vehicles as possible. If you're new, make sure you've completed the membership paperwork before arriving. Carpool fee: $5.
