Here's an alternative to hiking Teapot Hill the "traditional" way. This route takes you on the little-known "back route" to the peak of Teapot Hill up a very steep and somewhat sketchy trail with steep cliff drop offs. This route is only for advanced hikers and is dangerous. The difficulty level is only moderate for the rest of the hike (about the same as doing Teapot the traditional way) except for the short, steep, dangerous section.

Directions

Drive to Cultus Lake. Drive past Entrance Bay, past the regular Teapot Hill parking lot, past Maple Bay, and then you'll get to the Watt Creek Day Use Area on the left side of the road (if you get to Lyndell Beach you've gone too far). Park in this large parking lot and start up the obvious trail head. The first part of this hike is straight up. Once you're up over that initial climb you'll go back downhill and then come to a junction. It's easy to miss so keep an eye out for this left turn. Take that left fork and that's the "secret" access route to the backside of Teapot Hill. Follow that steep narrow trail to the top of Teapot. From there follow the regular route down teapot hill until you get to the T junction with the "Teapot" sign. Take a right at that junction. Go straight and take the first right turn you come to. This will complete the loop and bring you back to the trail you started on which will bring you back to the Watt Creek parking lot.
